Privacy policy

Who we are

JJ Monaghan is an independent watch brand based in the United Kingdom. We sell through jjmonaghan.com and are responsible for the personal information you share with us. If you have any questions about this policy or your information, email us at contact@jjmonaghan.com.

What we collect

  • When you place an order: your name, billing and delivery addresses, email address, phone number and the details of your order. Card and payment details are handled by our payment providers; we never see or store your full card number.
  • When you create an account: your name, email address, order history and saved addresses.
  • When you sign up to our newsletter: your email address and your marketing preferences.
  • When you contact us: your name, contact details and what you tell us.
  • When you browse our site: your device and browser type, IP address, approximate location, the pages and products you view, items you add to your basket, and how you arrived at our site. This is collected using cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies below).
  • When you use our virtual try-on: the tool uses your device’s camera only after you give permission, and only while you are using it.

How we use it, and why we are allowed to

  • To process and deliver your order, handle returns and provide customer service – because it is necessary to fulfil our contract with you.
  • To prevent fraud and keep our site secure – because we have a legitimate interest in protecting our business and customers.
  • To keep accounting and tax records – because we have a legal obligation to do so.
  • To send you our newsletter, new releases and restock alerts – with your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
  • To understand how our site is used and to measure and show our advertising, including on Facebook, Instagram and Google – with your consent where the law requires it, and otherwise because we have a legitimate interest in promoting our watches.

Who we share it with

We only share your information with organisations that help us run our business, and only as much as they need:

  • Shopify, which hosts our online store and processes orders.
  • Payment providers, including Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, PayPal, Klarna, Clearpay, Apple Pay and Google Pay. If you choose Klarna or Clearpay, they may carry out credit or identity checks under their own privacy policies.
  • Royal Mail and other delivery partners, to deliver your order.
  • Our email marketing provider, to send emails you have signed up for.
  • Advertising and analytics partners, such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google, and other platforms we advertise on, to measure our ads and show them to people likely to be interested.
  • Professional advisers and authorities, where we are required to by law.

We do not sell your personal information.

International transfers

Some of these providers store or process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK law, such as UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement.

How long we keep it

We keep order and transaction records for six years to meet UK tax rules. We keep newsletter details until you unsubscribe, and account details until you ask us to close your account. Information collected through cookies is kept for the periods set by each cookie.

Cookies

We use cookies that our store needs to work, such as keeping items in your basket and processing checkout. With your consent, we also use analytics and advertising cookies, including the Meta Pixel and Google tags, to understand how our site is used and to measure our advertising. You can change your choices at any time through our cookie settings or your browser.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information;
  • ask us to restrict or stop using your information, including for direct marketing;
  • receive your information in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it.

To use any of these rights, email contact@jjmonaghan.com. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Our site is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Keeping your information safe

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information. Payments are encrypted and processed by our payment providers.
